ADMISSION INFORMATION TO B.Ed. COURSE (SESSION: 2026-2028)

 

Admissions to the 2-year Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) programme for the academic session 2026–2028 at Sponsored Teachers’ Training College, Purulia will be conducted exclusively through an online admission process. Eligible candidates, as per the norms prescribed by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), may apply. Applications are invited from both:

• Pre-service (fresher) candidates, and
• In-service teachers who are duly deputed and approved by the Government of West Bengal.

This B.Ed. programme is offered in compliance with the NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedures) Regulations, 2014, and adheres to the curriculum structured by Baba Saheb Ambedkar Education University, Kolkata (formerly The West Bengal University of Teachers’ Training, Education Planning and Administration).

• All rules and guidelines issued by Baba Saheb Ambedkar Education University, the Government of West Bengal, and the NCTE will be strictly observed.
• In case of any dispute, the decision of the College Admission Committee shall be final and binding.

Each candidate must select one school subject as their method subject. The chosen subject must have been studied at the Undergraduate (UG) and/or Postgraduate (PG) level with a minimum of 300 marks. Selection must be based on the subject groups as listed below:

Science Group

Life Science (Zoology, Botany, and Physiology only)

Physical Science (Physics and Chemistry only)

Mathematics Group

Mathematics only

Language Group

Bengali and English only

Social Science Group

History, Geography and Education only

In accordance with NCTE regulations, applicants must have studied the chosen method subject at either the Bachelor’s or Master’s level to be eligible for selection in that method.

Applicants seeking admission to the B.Ed. course at Sponsored Teachers’ Training College, Purulia must fulfil the following eligibility requirements:

3.1 Academic Qualification

Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree in a school subject from a recognized university.

Both Fresher and Deputed candidates must have secured at least 50% marks in aggregate (across all subjects studied and passed) in their Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in the relevant subject.

• A relaxation of 5% (i.e., 45%) in marks is applicable for candidates belonging to SC/ST/PwD (minimum 40% disability) categories.

3.2 Engineering Graduates

Candidates with a B.E. or B.Tech. degree (with specialization in Science or Mathematics) are eligible for the mathematics method only, provided they have secured:

• 55% marks in aggregate (or 50% for SC/ST/PwD) based on a minimum of 300 marks in the qualifying paper.

Such candidates must:

• Enter the percentage of marks of B.E./B.Tech. in the row marked for Honours degree in the application form.
• If applicable, enter the percentage of marks of M.E./M.Tech. in the row marked for Master’s degree.

4.1 For Secondary & Higher Secondary Marks Entry:

Candidates must enter the percentage of marks at the Secondary and Higher Secondary levels by following the Best Five method, wherever applicable.

Candidates who have passed Secondary/Higher Secondary examinations under the old system, where the Best Five method is not applicable, must calculate and enter the percentage based on the total marks obtained out of the total marks.

4.2 For UG Pass/General/ Programme CBCS:

Candidates who have completed a Pass/General Course under old system or Programme Course under the CBCS system must enter their percentage of marks after converting their total marks obtained or CGPA into percentage, as applicable. The percentage entered must be accurate and supported by the prescribed conversion formula of the concerned University or by an official Conversion Certificate issued by the University.

Any incorrect, self-calculated without prescribed basis, unsupported or unverifiable conversion may result in rejection of the application or cancellation of candidature/admission.

4.3 For UG Honours/Honours CBCS/NEP - 3 Years Graduate:

a) For UG Honours Graduates:

Candidates who have completed a Bachelor’s Degree with Honours and have secured 50% or above in aggregate in the Honours subject must enter the percentage of marks obtained in the Honours subject of their Bachelor’s Degree.

Candidates who have not secured 50% marks in the Honours subject shall not be considered as Honours candidates for the purpose of admission. However, if the combined marks obtained in the Honours and Pass subjects, when taken together, amount to 50% or above, such candidates may apply under the Pass/General category, subject to fulfilment of all other eligibility conditions. Such candidates must not apply under the Honours category.

b) For UG CBCS Honours Graduate:

For candidates who have completed an Honours Degree under the CBCS system, if the final mark sheet shows only CGPA and does not mention the percentage of marks, the applicant must enter the percentage obtained by applying the conversion formula prescribed by the concerned University or mentioned on the mark sheet. If no such conversion formula is provided, the applicant must produce a University-issued Conversion Certificate/document stating the applicable CGPA-to-percentage conversion at the time of admission. Self-calculated, incorrect, unsupported or unverifiable conversion may lead to rejection of the application or cancellation of candidature/admission.

Candidates who have not secured 50% marks in the Honours (Core Course) subject shall not be considered as CBCS Honours Graduates for the purpose of admission. However, if the combined marks obtained in the Honours Core Course and Generic Elective (GE) subjects, taken together, are 50% or above, such candidates may apply under the Pass/General/Programme (CBCS) category, subject to fulfilment of all other eligibility conditions. Such candidates must not apply under the CBCS Honours category.

c) For UG NEP 3 Years Graduate:

Candidates who have completed a 3-Year Undergraduate Degree under NEP 2020 and have secured 50% or above marks are eligible to apply, subject to fulfilment of all other prescribed eligibility conditions. If the percentage of marks is mentioned on the final mark sheet, the candidate must enter the same percentage in the admission portal.

If the mark sheet mentions only CGPA/Grade Point, the candidate must convert it into percentage by strictly following the conversion formula prescribed by the concerned University. If no conversion formula is mentioned on the mark sheet, the candidate must obtain a Conversion Certificate issued by the concerned University and enter the percentage accordingly.

The candidate must produce valid supporting documents at the time of admission. Any incorrect conversion or failure to produce a valid supporting document may result in rejection of the application or cancellation of candidature/admission.

4.4 For B.E/B.Tech Graduate:

Candidates with a B.E./B.Tech. degree in Science or Mathematics specialization, having studied Mathematics for 300 marks and secured 55% or above (50% for SC/ST/PwD) must enter their overall aggregate percentage.

If the percentage is not mentioned on the mark sheet, it must be calculated using the University-prescribed conversion formula. If no formula is provided, a University-issued Conversion Certificate must be obtained and submitted. Incorrect or unsupported conversion may result in cancellation of the application/admission.

4.5 For PG/PG CBCS/M.E/M.Tech Candidate:

Candidates must enter the percentage of marks obtained in the final examination. If the final mark sheet shows CGPA instead of percentage, the CGPA must be converted into percentage strictly according to the conversion formula prescribed by the concerned University. If no clear conversion formula is provided, the candidate must obtain a University-issued Conversion Certificate and enter the percentage accordingly.

Incorrect conversion or failure to produce valid supporting documents may result in cancellation of candidature/admission.

In accordance with the West Bengal Government Order No. 746-L dated 30.04.2013 (West Bengal Act X of 2013), and subsequent notifications—No. 07-Edn(U)/1U-89/13 dated 02.01.2014, No. 65-Edn(U)/1U-89/13 dated 16.01.2014, No. 1106-BCW[VIR-33/2025] dated 03.06.2025 and No. 1107-BCWIIR-38/2025 dated 03.06.2025 and Order No. 1003-HED-17014(99)/60/2022-CS-SEC-Dept. of HE, Dated on 31.08.2026.reservation of seats shall be applicable for candidates belonging to the SC, ST, OBC and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) categories. Any future directives issued by the Government or the Hon’ble Courts shall be duly considered and implemented accordingly time to time.

A 5% relaxation in qualifying marks will be granted to SC/ST/PwD (minimum 40% disability) candidates in either graduation or post-graduation.

The upper age limit for fresher candidates is less than 37 years as on 31st August 2026.

Age relaxation will be applicable as per Government of West Bengal rules.

B.Ed. Course Fee Structure

Academic Session: 2026–28

Additional Payment: At the time of admission, students are required to pay an additional non-refundable amount of Rs. 1,000.00, along with the 1st-year course fee. This amount is provisionally allocated to cover the following activities:

• College Picnic: Rs. 600.00
• Saraswati Puja: Rs. 400.00

Payment of 2nd Year Fees: The 2nd year course fee must be paid within two months from the commencement of Semester-III. A late fee of Rs. 100.00 per month will be charged if payment is delayed beyond the due date. This penalty will continue to accrue monthly until the full amount is cleared.

Provisional Nature of Application

Successful submission of the online application does not guarantee eligibility or admission to the B.Ed. course for the session 2026-28. All applications will be subject to verification and compliance with the prescribed eligibility criteria.

Read Carefully:

Thoroughly read all eligibility criteria, instructions, terms & conditions, and undertaking before proceeding with the application.

Use Valid Contact Information:

Register using a valid Email ID and Mobile Number. These will be used for all future communications. Ensure they remain active and accessible.

Accuracy of Information:

Enter all information accurately. Incomplete, incorrect or misleading entries may lead to rejection of the application without further notice.

Academic Score Entry Guidelines:

If your marksheet contains a Grade Point (CGPA), you must enter the percentage of marks by using appropriate conversion rules of concerned university.

Incorrect or mismatched entries of percentage in place of CGPA will result in rejection of the application.

Secondary & Higher Secondary Marks Calculation:

At the Secondary and Higher Secondary levels, calculate your percentage based on the Best Five Subjects as reflected on your mark sheet.

Multiple Applications:

Only one application per candidate is allowed. Multiple applications will lead to automatic cancellation of all submissions.

Regulatory Compliance

All admission procedures and academic requirements will be carried out in strict accordance with the rules and regulations of:

1. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Education University (Erstwhile WBUTTEPA)
2. Government of West Bengal
3. National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE)

Application Fee:

No application fee is required.

Upload Documents:

Candidates must upload their academic records and other relevant documents as per instruction in the admission portal.

Document Verification:

Original documents will be verified during physical counselling. Admission will be confirmed only after successful verification and payment of required admission fee.

Mandatory Additional Courses

During the two-year B.Ed. programme, each student must complete:

• Two Add-on Courses and
• One SWAYAM Course (as per UGC/MHRD guidelines)

Completion of these components is compulsory for all students.

Final Authority

In case of any dispute or clarification regarding admission, the decision of the College Admission Committee shall be final and binding.

Admission to the B.Ed. course at Sponsored Teachers’ Training College is conducted as a stand-alone institution through online process, strictly following the relevant guidelines and Government Orders issued by the Higher Education Department (HED), Government of West Bengal and Affiliating University.

Step-by-Step Procedure:

Publication of Admission Notification: Upon receiving the official government order, the college issues an admission notification and circulates it widely on social media platforms to ensure outreach.

Opening of Online Admission Portal: On the scheduled date, the college opens its online admission portal where all relevant information, instructions regarding the infrastructural facilities of the college and the online admission process are provided in detail.

Application Submission: Candidates are required to fill out and submit the online application form within the stipulated period.

Merit List Publication:

A provisional merit list is published based on the basis of valid submitted applications.

Candidates may raise grievances, if any, after the publication of the Provisional Merit List with supporting documents through mail (Mail Id-sttcadmission@gmail.com) within the prescribed grievance submission period.

After the Grievance Verification Window closes, the Final Merit List will be prepared and published based on the verified information, which includes:

• Date and process of counselling
• Document verification schedule
• Payment procedures and deadlines

All these details are communicated through the college website and SMS message to the merit listed applicants.

Counselling and Admission:

Based on the final merit list, 1st round counselling and admission is conducted.

After completion of the 1st round counselling, a 2nd merit list is prepared from the remaining valid applicants (if seats remain vacant), and the same process is followed.

This cycle continues until all vacant seats are filled or the admission deadline is reached.

The college has an approved intake of 50 students for the B.Ed. Programme of session 2026-28. The seat distribution is as follows:

10.1 Fresher’s Category – 95% of Total Seats (47 Seats)

As per the West Bengal Government Order No. 746-L dated 30.04.2013 (West Bengal Act X of 2013), and subsequent notifications—No. 07-Edn(U)/1U-89/13 dated 02.01.2014, No. 65-Edn(U)/1U-89/13 dated 16.01.2014, No. 1106-BCW[VIR-33/2025] dated 03.06.2025, No. 1107-BCWIIR-38/2025 dated 03.06.2025 and No. 1003-HED-17014(99)/60/2022-CS-SEC-Dept. of HE, Dated on 31.08.2026, the reservation of seats for various categories among the fresher candidates as per government of West Bengal is as follows:

• Scheduled Caste (SC): 22% of 47 seats = 10 Seats
• Scheduled Tribe (ST): 6% of 47 seats = 03
• Other Backward Classes(OBC): 7 % of 47 Seats = 04

All reservations will be made as per the prevailing norms of the Government of West Bengal.

10.2 Deputed Candidates – 5% of Total Seats (3 Seats)

As per Government Order No. 1003-HED-17014(99)/60/2022-CS-SEC-Dept. of HE, Dated on 31.08.2026. The 5% of the total intake (i.e., 3 seats) are reserved for in-service/deputed teachers, duly approved by the Government of West Bengal.

Any unfilled reserved seats (if applicable) will be reallocated as per Government guidelines.

Final seat allocation will be subject to verification of eligibility and documentation.

10.3 Seat Matrix

Total Approved Intake: 50 Seats

Distribution of seats:

• Persons with Benchmark Disabilities will enjoy 3% reservation. Horizontal reservation shall be provided in accordance with the applicable Government Rules/Orders. PwD candidates shall be considered within their respective vertical categories on the basis of merit, and the applicable horizontal reservation shall be adjusted accordingly.
• If no deputed candidate takes admission, the three allotted seats for them will be redistributed—two seats for UR category and one seat for SC category respectively.
• This Seat Matrix may be changed as per requirement.

The selection of candidates for admission to the B.Ed. Programme will be based on a merit-based scoring system, as outlined below:

General Guidelines

Some applicants may possess mark sheets that do not reflect paper-wise or total marks, and only provide grades or grade points.

• In such cases, candidates must convert their grade points into percentage marks in accordance with the relevant university norms/formula.
• If the conversion formula is not provided on the mark sheet, the candidate must obtain and submit a Conversion Certificate issued by the concerned University. Failure to produce the required Conversion Certificate may result in cancellation of candidature/admission.
• Percentages must be rounded off to two decimal places only.
  For example, a score of 56.8373 should be recorded as 56.84, not 56.83.

Scoring for Deputed Candidates

A separate merit list will be prepared for Deputed Candidates, based on:

• Length of approved teaching experience, and
• Subject group-wise classification.

Teaching experience will be considered up to 31st August 2026.

Scoring for Fresher Candidates

For Fresher Candidates (UR, SC, ST, OBC and PWD), the merit list will be prepared based on academic qualifications, as per the following point-based system:

The score for each candidate will be calculated using the following formula:

Score = (% of Marks Obtained) × Weightage

Where:

% of Marks = (Obtained Marks ÷ Total Marks) × 100

TM = Total Marks

OM = Obtained Marks

Weightage is fixed for each level of examination.

In case of CGPA/Grade, equivalent percentage must be calculated and justifiable.

Candidates must carefully read and understand all Terms & Conditions and the Undertaking before proceeding with the online application process. Submission of the form implies full acceptance of these terms. Incomplete or incorrect applications are liable to be rejected.
