ADMISSION INFORMATION TO B.Ed. COURSE (SESSION: 2025-2027)

 

Admissions to the 2-year Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) programme for the academic session 2025–2026 at Sponsored Teachers’ Training College, Purulia will be conducted exclusively through an online admission process. Eligible candidates, as per the norms prescribed by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), may apply. Applications are invited from both:

  • Pre-service (fresher) candidates, and
  • In-service teachers who are duly deputed and approved by the Government of West Bengal.

This B.Ed. programme is offered in compliance with the NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedures) Regulations, 2014, and adheres to the curriculum structured by Baba Saheb Ambedkar Education University, Kolkata (formerly The West Bengal University of Teachers’ Training, Education Planning and Administration).

Please Note:

  • All rules and guidelines issued by Baba Saheb Ambedkar Education University, the Government of West Bengal, and the NCTE will be strictly observed.
  • In case of any dispute, the decision of the College Admission Committee shall be final and binding.

 

1. Course of Study:

2. Method Subjects (Subject Specialization):

Each candidate must select one school subject as their method subject. The chosen subject must have been studied at the Undergraduate (UG) and/or Postgraduate (PG) level with a minimum of 300 marks. Selection must be based on the subject groups as listed below.

A) Science Group
  • Life Science (Zoology, Botany, and Physiology only)
  • Physical Science (Physics and Chemistry only)
B) Mathematics Group
  • Mathematics only
C) Language Group
  • Bengali and English only
D) Social Science Group
  • History, Geography and Education only

 

Important Note:

In accordance with NCTE regulations, applicants must have studied the chosen method subject at either the Bachelor’s or Master’s level to be eligible for selection in that method.

 

3. Eligibility Criteria for Admission

Applicants seeking admission to the B.Ed. course at Sponsored Teachers’ Training College, Purulia must fulfil the following eligibility requirements:

 

1) Academic Qualification

 

  • Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree in a school subject from a recognized university.
  • Both Fresher and Deputed candidates must have secured at least 50% marks in aggregate (across all subjects studied and passed) in their Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in the relevant subject.
  • A relaxation of 5% (i.e., 45%) in marks is applicable for candidates belonging to SC/ST/PWD (minimum 40% disability) categories.

 

2) Engineering Graduates

 

  • Candidates with a B.E. or B.Tech. degree (with specialization in Science or Mathematics) are eligible for the mathematics method only, provided they have secured:
    • 55% marks in aggregate (or 50% for SC/ST/PWD) based on a minimum of 300 marks in the qualifying paper.
  • Such candidates must:
    • Enter the percentage of marks of B.E./B.Tech. in the row marked for Honours degree in the application form.
    • If applicable, enter the percentage of marks of M.E./M.Tech. in the row marked for Master’s degree.

 

4. Guidelines for Entering Marks in the Application Form:

 

 1. For Candidates from the Old System:

  1. For Honours Graduates Candidates:
  • Candidates who have completed an Honours course must enter either the percentage of marks or the total grade points obtained in the Honours subject of their Bachelor's degree.
  • If the marks obtained in the Honours course are below 50%, the combined marks of both Honours and Pass subjects will be considered. If the aggregate marks from both exceed or equal 50%, the percentage of the combined marks shall be entered under the “Bachelor’s Degree (General/Pass Course)” section.
  1. For General/Pass Graduates Candidates:
  • Candidates who have completed a General or Pass course must enter either the percentage of marks or the total grade points obtained in their Bachelor's degree (General/Programme Course).

 

 2. For Candidates from the CBCS (Choice Based Credit System):

 

  1. Honours Graduates (CBCS):
  • Candidates must enter the CGPA/SGPA or percentage of marks obtained in their Bachelor’s degree (Honours).
  • If the marks obtained in the Honours Core Course are below 50%, the aggregate of the Core Course and the Generic Elective (GE) will be considered. If the combined aggregate is 50% or above, the corresponding percentage should be entered under the “Bachelor’s Degree (Programme Course)” section.
  1. Programme Graduates (CBCS):
  • Candidates must enter the CGPA or percentage of marks obtained in the Bachelor’s degree (Programme Course) under the CBCS system.

 

5.  Reservation Policy:

  • In accordance with the West Bengal Government Order No. 746-L dated 30.04.2013 (West Bengal Act X of 2013), and subsequent notifications—No. 07-Edn(U)/1U-89/13 dated 02.01.2014, No. 65-Edn(U)/1U-89/13 dated 16.01.2014, No. 1106-BCW[VIR-33/2025] dated 03.06.2025 and No. 1107-BCWIIR-38/2025 dated 03.06.2025—reservation of seats shall be applicable for candidates belonging to the SC, ST, OBC-A, OBC-B and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) categories. Any future directives issued by the Government or the Hon’ble Courts shall be duly considered and implemented accordingly.
  • A 5% relaxation in qualifying marks will be granted to SC/ST/PWD (minimum 40% disability) candidates in either graduation or post-graduation.

6. Age Limit (for Fresher Candidates):

 

  • The upper age limit for fresher candidates is less than 37 years as on 31st August 2025. Age relaxation will be applicable as per Government of West Bengal rules.

Important Notes:

 

(a) Additional Payment:

At the time of admission, students are required to pay an additional non-refundable amount of Rs. 3,000.00, along with the 1st-year course fee. This amount is provisionally allocated to cover the following activities:

  • Study Tour: Rs. 1,400.00
  • Add-on Course: Rs. 200.00
  • Self-Study Course: Rs. 500.00
  • College Picnic: Rs. 600.00
  • Saraswati Puja: Rs. 300.00

Please note that the above charges are tentative. If the actual expenditure exceeds the collected amount, the additional cost will be payable individually by each student.b

(b) Payment of 2nd Year Fees:

The 2nd year course fee must be paid within two months from the commencement of Semester-III. A late fee of Rs. 100.00 per month will be charged if payment is delayed beyond the due date. This penalty will continue to accrue monthly until the full amount is cleared.

8. Important Instructions to be followed:

Applicants are advised to carefully note the following points before initiating and while completing the online application process for admission to the B.Ed. Programme (Session 2025–2027):

  1. Provisional Nature of Application
    • Successful submission of the online application does not guarantee eligibility or admission to the B.Ed. course. All applications will be subject to verification and compliance with the prescribed eligibility criteria.
  1. Read Carefully:
    • Thoroughly read all eligibility criteria, instructions, terms & conditions, and undertaking before proceeding with the application.
  1. Use Valid Contact Information:
    • Register using a valid Email ID and Mobile Number. These will be used for all future communications. Ensure they remain active and accessible.
  1. Accuracy of Information:
    • Enter all information accurately. Incomplete, incorrect or misleading entries may lead to rejection of the application without further notice.
  1. Academic Score Entry Guidelines:
    • If your marksheet contains a Grade Point (CGPA), you must enter the CGPA.
    • If it does not, enter the correct percentage of marks.
    • Only one—CGPA or percentage—should be entered, whichever is applicable and higher, based on your academic record.
    • Incorrect or mismatched entries in CGPA or percentage will result in rejection of the application.
  2. Secondary & Higher Secondary Marks Calculation:
    • At the Secondary and Higher Secondary levels, calculate your percentage based on the Best Five Subjects as reflected on your mark sheet.
  1. Multiple Applications:
    • Only one application per candidate is allowed. Multiple applications will lead to automatic cancellation of all submissions.
  1. Regulatory Compliance
    • All admission procedures and academic requirements will be carried out in strict accordance with the rules and regulations of:
      1. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Education University (erstwhile WBUTTEPA)
      2. Government of West Bengal
      3. National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE)
  1. Application Fee:
    • No application fee is required.
  1. Upload Documents:
    • Candidates must upload their academic records and other relevant documents as per instruction in the admission portal.
  1. Document Verification:
    • Original documents will be verified during physical counselling. Admission will be confirmed only after successful verification and payment of required admission fee.
  • Mandatory Additional Courses
    • During the two-year B.Ed. programme, each student must complete:
      1. Two Add-on Courses and
      2. One SWAYAM Course (as per UGC/MHRD guidelines)
    • Completion of these components is compulsory for all students.
  1. Final Authority
    • In case of any dispute or clarification regarding admission, the decision of the College Admission Committee shall be final and binding.
  1.  Admission Procedure

Admission to the B.Ed. course at Sponsored Teachers’ Training College is conducted as a stand-alone institution through online process, strictly following the relevant guidelines and Government Orders issued by the Higher Education Department (HED), Government of West Bengal and Affiliating University.

 

Step-by-Step Admission Procedure:

  1. Publication of Admission Notification:

Upon receiving the official government order, the college issues an admission notification in a local daily newspaper and circulates it widely on social media platforms to ensure outreach.

  1. Opening of Online Admission Portal:

On the scheduled date, the college opens its online admission portal where all relevant information, instructions regarding the infrastructural facilities of the college and the online admission process are provided in detail.

  1. Application Submission: 
    Candidates are required to fill out and submit the online application form within the stipulated period.
  1. Merit List Publication:
  • A provisional merit list is published based on the valid submitted applications.
  • Candidates are allowed to put their grievance request via mail- sttcadmission@gmail.com to the college for corrections/modifications, if necessary.
  • After the correction window closes, the final merit list will be published, which includes:
    • Date and process of counselling
    • Document verification schedule
    • Payment procedures and deadlines

All these details are communicated through the college website and via SMS and/or WhatsApp massages to the merit listed applicants.

 

  1. Counselling and Admission:
  • Based on the final merit list, 1st round counselling and admission is conducted.
  • After completion of the 1st round counselling, the college will conduct a 2nd round counselling from the final merit list (if seat(s) remain vacant), following the same process.
  • This cycle continues until all vacant seats are filled or the admission deadline is reached.
  1. Documents Required for Application and Admission:
  1. Downloaded & printed application form.
  2. Admit Card of Madhyamik Examination for age proof.
  3.  All Mark sheets (Madhyamik to UG/PG, M.Phil/Ph.D)
  4.  Caste Certificate (if applicable)
  5. Aadhar Card for Identity and Address Proof
  6.  One set photocopy of all documents duly self-attested
  7.  Passport-size coloured photograph
  8.  Migration Certificate (After admission for non-BSAEU students)

 

10.  Seat Distribution:

The college has an approved intake of 50 students for the B.Ed. Programme. The seat distribution is as follows:

Fresher’s Category – 95% of Total Seats (47 Seats) :

As per the West Bengal Government Order No. 746-L dated 30.04.2013 (West Bengal Act X of 2013), and subsequent notifications—No. 07-Edn(U)/1U-89/13 dated 02.01.2014, No. 65-Edn(U)/1U-89/13 dated 16.01.2014, No. 1106-BCW[VIR-33/2025] dated 03.06.2025 and No. 1107-BCWIIR-38/2025 dated 03.06.2025, the reservation of seats for various categories among the fresher candidates is as follows:

  • Scheduled Caste (SC): 22% of 47 seats
  • Scheduled Tribe (ST): 6% of 47 seats
  • Other Backward Classes – Category A (OBC-A): 10% of 47 seats
  • Other Backward Classes – Category B (OBC-B): 7% of 47 seats

Note:

  1. Reservation for Persons with Disabilities (PwD): Persons with Disabilities (PwD) are entitled to 3% reservation, distributed across all categories—SC, ST, OBC-A, OBC-B and Unreserved (General).
  2. Compliance with Government Norms: All reservations will be implemented in accordance with the prevailing regulations of the Government of West Bengal.

 

Deputed Candidates – 5% of Total Seats (3 Seats):

 

           As per Government Order No. 556-Edn (CS)/10M-20/2015, dated 29.7.2025 the 5% of the total intake (i.e., 3 seats) are reserved for in-service/deputed teachers, duly approved by the Government of West Bengal.

 

Important Note:

  • Any unfilled reserved seats (if applicable) will be reallocated as per Government guidelines.
  • Final seat allocation will be subject to verification of eligibility and documentation.

Note:

 (i) Reservation for Persons with Disabilities (PwD): If no deputed candidates are admitted, two seats—one from the Unreserved (UR)/General category and one from the SC/ST/OBC-A/OBC-B categories—will be reserved for Persons with Disabilities (PwD) out of the total 50 seats. Otherwise, one seat will be reserved for PwD candidates out of the 47 seats designated for Fresher candidates.

(ii) Redistribution of Deputed Candidate Seats: If no deputed candidates are admitted, the three seats originally allocated to them will be reallocated as follows: one seat each to the OBC-B, SC, and UR categories.

(iii) Seat Matrix Flexibility: The seat matrix is subject to change based on institutional requirements.

 

 

11.  Scoring Procedure for Selection:

The selection of candidates for admission to the B.Ed. Programme will be based on a merit-based scoring system, as outlined below:

. a. General Guidelines

  • Some applicants may possess mark sheets that do not reflect paper-wise or total marks, and only provide grades or grade points.
    • In such cases, candidates must convert their grade points into percentage marks in accordance with the relevant university norms.
    • Candidates must be prepared to justify the method of conversion, if required during verification.
  • Percentages must be rounded off to two decimal places only.
    • For example, a score of 56.8373 should be recorded as 56.84, not 56.83.

 

b. Scoring for Deputed Candidates

  • A separate merit list will be prepared for Deputed Candidates, based on:
    • Length of approved teaching experience, and
    • Subject group-wise classification.
  • Teaching experience will be considered up to 31st August 2025.

 

c. Scoring for Fresher Candidates

For Fresher Candidates (UR, SC, ST, OBC-A, OBC-B, PWD), the merit list will be prepared based on academic qualifications, as per the following point-based system:

12. Calculation of Scores Based on Academic Qualifications

 

The score for each candidate will be calculated using the following formula:

Score = (% of Marks Obtained) × Weightage

Where:

  • % of Marks = (Obtained Marks ÷ Total Marks) × 100
  • TM = Total Marks
  • OM = Obtained Marks
  • Weightage is fixed for each level of examination.
  • In case of CGPA/Grade, equivalent percentage must be calculated and justifiable.

13. Online Admission Form Fill-Up Process

    • After completing all entries, read the Terms & Conditions and Undertaking carefully.
    • Indicate your acceptance by clicking in the designated checkbox.

 

  1. Unique ID Generation & Payment
    • Upon successful submission, a Unique Application ID will be auto-generated.
    • You will then be redirected to the Payment Gateway to pay the required application fee.

 

  1. Important Instruction
    • Candidates are advised to watch the instructional video (YouTube link provided in the admission portal) before filling out the form to avoid errors.

 

  1. Document Verification
    • Verification of original documents will be carried out during Physical Counselling.
    • Only after successful verification will the candidate be recommended for admission.

 

  1. Uploading Academic Documents
    • Admitted candidates must upload scanned copies of their academic documents as per further instructions and notifications.
